Skills
Skills are standing instructions: each tells your agent how to perform one part of the work, so a request in plain words leads any agent through the same written procedure.
| Skill | What it is for | Your agent uses it when |
|---|---|---|
trace-state (T) |
Recording human direction and machine execution. | A session’s input, choices, checks and provenance need a record, before each commit of an agent session. It is the starting point and routes to the other five. |
trace-review (R) |
Reviewing a commit, a draft or a passage against named criteria and sources. | A candidate needs findings grounded in named sources. The result is model review: advisory, never acceptance. |
trace-acceptance (A) |
Recording an actor’s decision to accept, return or refuse a candidate. | You ask what is outstanding, or say your decision about a record. |
trace-ctransition (C) |
Checking and recording a boundary transition. | An input is admitted from outside, a draft moves into paper/, or an instruction is adopted as a default. |
trace-evaluate (E) |
Taking findings into the work and rechecking that a correction worked. | A supported finding needs a ledger row before it is fixed, or a correction needs a targeted recheck on each output it reaches. |
trace-check (all five) |
Running the mechanical checks and reading their report. | The project’s mechanical checks should run and their report be read. |
meeting-and-idea-intake |
Bringing a meeting’s decisions or a noted idea in as direction, verbatim and with consent. | A meeting or an idea directs the work. |
literature-processing |
Taking one source to an extraction, a source note and a coding record. | A source needs to be read into the project. |
zotero-knowledge-base |
Keeping a Zotero library in order and searching it, planning every change before it writes. | You work on the reference library or need a citation from it. |
claim-evidence-audit |
Rating claims against the evidence the project holds. | A draft’s claims need checking. A favourable rating is not acceptance. |
The first six are governance routines, the TRACE entry points. The last four are research skills, worked examples of research methods under TRACE, which you can replace or extend with your own.
